Transducer Clamping
Two ultrasonic transducers are clamped to the outer surface of the pipe — one upstream and one downstream — at a precise spacing calculated from the pipe diameter, wall thickness, and fluid properties.
Ultrasonic Signal Transmission
Each transducer alternates between transmitting and receiving high-frequency acoustic pulses. The signals travel diagonally through the pipe wall, through the flowing medium, and into the opposing transducer.
Transit Time Measurement
The meter measures the transit time upstream (against flow) versus downstream (with flow). Flow accelerates the downstream signal and decelerates the upstream signal — the difference between them is proportional to the flow velocity.
Flow Rate Calculation
Onboard electronics apply the time-difference algorithm, cross-referenced with pipe geometry data entered by the operator, to compute accurate volumetric flow rate and totalized volume in real time.
